Close-Up A1 is an online English course for children and teenagers that helps students build confidence in using the language in real situations. The programme combines interesting topics, up-to-date vocabulary, clear grammar and a variety of reading, listening, speaking and writing tasks.
In the online lessons, children work with striking photographs, videos and stories from National Geographic. They discover real places, people, cultures and curious facts about the world, while expanding their vocabulary and improving their communication skills in English. The system is designed for lower and upper secondary school students and is suitable for developing language skills at around A1 level.
During the course, children will work on all the core language skills:
- Reading – understanding adapted and authentic texts on interesting real-world topics;
- Listening – understanding dialogues, interviews and videos, and picking out specific and main information;
- Speaking – giving opinions, describing experiences, and taking part in conversations and discussions;
- Writing – producing more structured texts, such as short emails, messages, descriptions, stories and opinion texts;
- Grammar and vocabulary – more confident use of the tenses learned, question forms, prepositions, pronouns, modal verbs and topic vocabulary.

How do the lessons work?

Close-Up A1 turns online learning into a journey to the world beyond the coursebook. Through National Geographic content, students explore global and current topics, and develop curiosity, general knowledge and the ability to express their own position in English.

Intellect Word! is a proprietary linguistic development program based on the principles of the SuperMemo+ space repetition model, in symbiosis with the works of Tony Buzan and Pimsleur, developed and built in Fibonacci's golden section. The research, production and implementation of the Intellect Word! project is the result of many years of work by the RND department of Intellect Schools.
