Close-Up C1
Close-Up C1 is an online English course for advanced teenagers who want to use the language freely, persuasively and confidently in a range of situations. The system includes materials, articles, photographs and videos selected from National Geographic that spark students' curiosity and bring them into contact with current, meaningful and inspiring real-world topics.
In the online lessons, students work on more complex texts, social issues and topics related to culture, science, ecology, technology and modern life. They not only expand their vocabulary and perfect their grammar, but also develop critical thinking and the ability to form their own position and defend it with sound arguments.
After completing the course, the student will be able to:
- read fluently and understand without difficulty texts with a complex structure and content from different areas of communication;
- speak freely on topics such as emotions, culture, ecology, urbanisation, education, career, technology and society;
- express opinions, give arguments, take part in discussions and debates, and defend their point of view convincingly;
- hold different types of conversations confidently and in an appropriate style;
- use all the main English tenses correctly and flexibly;
- use modal, semi-modal and perfect modal verbs;
- use the active and passive voice, all types of conditional sentences, and direct and reported speech in both spoken and written communication;
- listen to and understand longer conversations, lectures, interviews and educational films, picking out both the main and the detailed information;
- write letters, emails, articles, essays and stories confidently, taking into account the topic, purpose, style and features of each genre.

How do the lessons work?
The online lessons combine work with texts, audio and video materials, speaking practice, discussions, debates, grammar exercises and writing tasks. The teacher gives clear guidance and individual feedback, and students can take an active part, ask questions and use English in real communication.
